Canadian Landscape Artist

Biography

 Larry Deacon

Artist Deacon is inspired by travels throughout Canada and the U.S., and is in constant search of something new in the vastness of the North American landscape. Whether viewing the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains or the rugged coastline of the eastern seaboard, Larry ventures off the beaten path to seek out that forgotten boat, or deserted lighthouse on a foggy morning. Larry reveals a natural artistic aptitude that expresses itself today in a contemporary realist style. By his teenage years, Larry was successfully experimenting in water colours, pen & ink, acrylics, and oils. However, his aesthetic insistence for substantive realism led to the discovery of an old method of painting using egg tempera as a medium. Larry demonstrated his mastery of this meticulous, and arduous painting technique by creating accurate depiction’s of his subject matter that have an inner life and personality the viewer responds to. Presently his distinctive works are done in oils, acrylics, egg tempera, or gouache and have attracted a wide audience and are sure to strike a responsive chord in new viewers. His depiction of the Cape Hatteras Light, the tallest lighthouse in America, was recently featured on a grandfather clock issued by the Danbury Mint. And most recently he has been published through Wild Wings of Minnesota USA. Over the last few years, Larry has devoted his full time to painting, and in doing so, has found added inspiration through the use of oils and acrylics. His paintings have seen a sharp increase in sales with an expanding audience seeking his work due to his refined style that incorporates techniques of layering and glazing in his paints. Larry has participated in numerous local art shows and has expanded his ventures to include the Toronto Art Expo in 2007 and also March 2008. He was accepted into the renowned McMichael Gallery’s Autumn Art Sale of 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2011 and 2012 he was in the top ten for total sales. Another award was received as 1st place prize for the Technical Merit Award at the Ottawa Art Expo 2013.
